Step 1 of 6 Next: Introduction and Questions

Register a Death

Before you can book an appointment to register a death, we will need to ask you some questions.

We can only register deaths that took place in Peterborough - this includes deaths at Peterborough City Hospital, care homes and private homes in our district. If you are unsure whether the death took place in Peterborough, there is a map of our district here.

If the death took place outside Peterborough, you cannot register it here - however, you can still make an appointment to come and see us and we will send the information to the district where the death occurred. This may delay the registration, the issuing of death certificates, and the issuing of the paperwork required for the funeral. Alternatively, you can book an appointment directly with the district where the death occurred, and register in person there.

At the appointment you will be asked questions about yourself and the deceased.

You will need to have a good level of English - if you do not, please bring someone who can interpret for you. If the registrar has concerns about your understanding of English the appointment may have to be abandoned and re-booked.

Death certificates cost £12.50 each, and can be purchased at your appointment. We can only accept payment by card.

If you have any questions about registering a death please visit our website for more information, or contact us on 01733 864646 or by email at peterboroughregisteroffice@peterborough.gov.uk
